Opened in August 2009, the Straw Bale Shed is suitable for small community meetings and workshops and is available for hire only to registered not-for-profit groups.

This unique venue offers a meeting space for small events, along with a kitchenette and opens onto the Carss Park Community Garden.

In keeping with the sustainability ethos of the gardens, the shed walls were built from straw bales, recycled tyres were used in the foundation, and lime render used in place of cement. The timber in the venue was from plantation-grown Paulownia. The venue also includes rainwater tanks and a 'truth window' to show visitors the straw bale construction of the walls.
